At first, there were no Psyches, just a small group of women plowing through the frenetic teenage Leonardo DiCaprio website postings, trying to hold conversations amidst the typewritten frenzy. Well, I say women, but there was one man, Harold Lawson, who wrote with us quite a bit, seemed very knowledgable about Leonardo, and eventually "confessed" to being a close friend of his. And on the few occasions someone posed as Leonardo he helped to call their bluff. He "brought" his friend "Leonardo" to the scene, and had us quite convinced that we were lucky enough to "meet" Leonardo, if only online, and we had moved on to our own, more private messageboard. Unfortunately, a few of his writings became questionable and when asked to explain himself, he flew the coop, and now we can only guess that he himself was a poser.
Part of the Greek myth of Psyche and Cupid centers on the fact that she was expected to believe that she was married to Cupid without ever having seen his face - she rebelled and shone a lamp in his face to see who he really was. While we'll never really know the truth about Harold, we have become committed to 'shining the lamp' on the frauds and imposters who hover in cyberspace above the DiCaprio websites. We had already "busted" a few posers and Harold, and as it kept coming up again and again, we would bust more of them. Eventually, it became a main focus of the group, and we have grown to quite a nice circle of 18 mature and positive, intelligent and interesting women from around the globe.
We are the much quieter, introspective fans that go unnoticed behind that sea of frenzied faces. You won't find any of these women screaming along the red carpet at premieres!
