Our Accomplishments (or, What Have We Done For Leonardo Lately?)

We started out by just trying to talk to one another on the DiCaprio Online messageboard. We were surprised by the number of people claiming to be Leonardo, and not only claiming this, but doing a very poor job of it. Those were easy to discern and we let the younger fans on the messageboard know about the dangers of internet communication. The more difficult ones required tracing them to their Internet Providers and sending a complaint so that their service would be cancelled. Click here for warning message regarding "lurkers" and "imposters."

We felt that it was important to do this not only for ourselves and the young fans who might believe these imposters (and send them personal information, etc.) but we also felt that these imposters were going to add to the gossip mill and give Leonardo a misrepresented reputation. It was a very sad time for us when we discovered that one of our own members had been a party to this very strange phenomenon that is still going on and on. Every day there is another person who says they know Leonardo or private information about him, or that they themselves are Leonardo.

During this time, we also found a website where the owner was posting nude clips from "Total Eclipse" and we wrote in to his Internet Provider. They removed his website because they had a policy against nudity. Then, when he thought he could try again through a different Internet Provider, we again wrote in and it was removed due to copyright infringement. We have set up an email address for people to contact us if they need help with an imposter or removing a website featuring unauthorized celebrity nudity at [email protected]. This project has barely gotten underway, but we are very pleased to be able to provide this free service to anyone who may need it, and we continue to report frauds and troublemakers to their Internet Providers.

However, we don't want you to get the idea that these messageboards dedicated to Leonardo are filled with crazed fans and internet predators. They have proven to be extremely useful tools for raising awareness in the general public regarding the scrutiny by Leonardo's critics of his personal choices and private matters.

At a time when it seemed that no topic was more important than the discussion of Leonardo's intentional absence from this year's Oscars, we were letting his fans know that he has a right to his choices, and that we should support his wishes to spend his time as he pleased, and for whatever reason he pleased. Many who first complained about his absence began to understand and accept his point of view. Speaking of the Oscars, one of our members, Jo, had a replica Oscar made and sent to Leonardo. She selflessly sent it to him as a gift from his fans to let him know that the Academy voters did not represent his fans' opinions. Please click to see the Oscar that Jo sent to thank Leonardo for his excellent performances.

At around the same time, it was announced that Leonardo was to be the subject of a PlayGirl Magazine issue, and that he was going to fight the magazine's right to publish these intrusive and unauthorized photos. The messageboards began to reflect interest in this issue, and so Psyche member Pixie wrote a message to his fans to explain the reasons they needed to reconsider their support for PlayGirl Magazine and turn it around to support Leonardo's wishes to not be featured in the magazine. Over the course of the last several months, we have been posting this message to various websites and we instigated a boycott which included passing out printed flyers of the message at video stores in several cities around the world with what we consider to be a terrific turn-around rate. Although the magazine found a way around the lawsuit and published a collage of images, we have put a dent in the sales of the magazine through our boycott efforts and increased interest, sales, and rentals of the movie "Total Eclipse", something of which we are extremely proud! Our latest effort is just beginning. We have come up with a resolution for dedicated fans to take in order to stave off the interest in unauthorized celebrity photos. By raising awareness in how the paparazzi cycle works, we hope to make it unmarketable for publishers to buy these photos. We know how daunting that goal may seem, but we're taking the first steps and we'll just go from there. Please click here for the Resolution.

We hope you have enjoyed learning about our efforts to be the best fans possible in a world where people seem to enjoy tearing their Hollywood heroes down. We don't ask for recognition or gratitude, since we realize we may be over-stepping our boundaries (after all, no one asked us to do these things,) but we thought you might be interested to know that we support Leonardo and his choices just as we would if he were a friend of ours, and these are just some of the things we do to express that.
